Defense in Depth: Optimizing IT Infrastructure for Modern Cybersecurity

The Critical Connection Between IT Infrastructure and Cybersecurity

Cyberattacks are on the rise, driven by sophisticated AI tools and ransomware campaigns. In response, cybersecurity leaders are adopting advanced defense strategies like zero-trust architecture and increased automation. But a recent study by MeriTalk, in partnership with Dell Technologies and Microsoft, surveyed 375 IT decision-makers and found a significant challenge: Is a company’s IT infrastructure ready to support this new security paradigm?

The study, titled “Optimizing IT Infrastructure for Modern Cybersecurity,” reveals that while 90% of IT leaders agree that modern infrastructure is a must-have for next-gen security, only 30% feel their current solutions are fully prepared. This highlights a critical gap that organizations need to address.

Key Findings from the Report

  • IT Modernization is a Top Priority: A vast majority of organizations (87%) view data center modernization as a top priority. Despite this, only 30% of them believe their current data center solutions can fully support proactive, end-to-end cybersecurity.
  • Zero Trust is Gaining Traction: Zero trust architecture, which operates on the principle of “never trust, always verify,” is being implemented or planned by 73% of organizations. For those who have started implementation, the most common components integrated are data encryption and protection measures (67%), cloud security measures (64%), and endpoint security solutions (54%).
  • AI is a Game-Changer: AI and automation are transforming cyber defense, with 86% of organizations already incorporating AI into their cybersecurity practices. The top uses for AI include advanced malware detection (46%), real-time threat detection (45%), and data loss prevention (42%).
  • Leaders See Real Business Benefits: Organizations that are “ahead of the curve” with their cybersecurity practices, referred to as “cyber leaders” in the report, are seeing tangible business benefits. They are significantly more likely to report improvements in profitability, employee productivity, and customer satisfaction.
